Welcome to the Twenties!
Can you believe we have entered a new decade?
Some of us are still sand-duning in the desert or scuba-diving in coral reefs (sorry to make you jealous) so it hasn’t properly sunk in yet.
For those of you back at work, the comedown from the holidays is likely at play and the reality of yet another year in motion is almost certainly sinking in.
Instead being stuck in a state of resistance, we find it helps to let these emotions spark a good old ‘life audit’.
And traditionally, this time of year provides a perfect opportunity to take stock on our lives and implement a game plan as a result of our findings.
So in this vein, we’d like to invite you to do a resolution setting exercise, albeit with a twist.
Start by asking yourself these two questions:
- What do I wish was different about myself or my life?
- What am I going to do about it this year?
Possible answers might include: Wishing you were physically fitter so deciding to join a gym. Wishing you were more self-aware so deciding to commit to more meditation. Wishing you spent more time with the family, so deciding to come home earlier once a week, etc.
Now for the twist.
As you resolve your answers, notice all the reasons that the little voice in your head tells you about why they can’t happen or why they won’t last.
THIS is the place you actually want to look.
Whatever reasons that voice gave you is almost certainly the same reasons that get in the way of you living the life you want and know you truly deserve.
Keep in mind that sometimes it takes digging a little deeper and looking beyond those superficial reasons to find the real answers.
With that in mind, ask yourself these two questions:
- What usually stops me from fulfilling on my resolutions?
- What am I going to do about it?
Herein lies the true resolutions for the year ahead that will actually make the difference you are out to achieve.
The answers might not come to you right away, but it’s certainly a place to start.
