You know that broken record inside of your head? The one that continuously commentates on everything you see, think, and do throughout the day? Blah Blah Blah all day long. Well as I’m sure you are well aware, sometimes that voice can turn nasty and get in the way of us expressing our fullest potential. For me (Nikki), my little voice loves telling me that “I can’t do it”. Mostly I ignore it, but when I’m feeling a little insecure (especially in the week leading up to my menstrual cycle), in a moment of weakness, I believe it. So I refrain from saying what I wanted to say, or doing what I wanted to do. And then I spend the rest of the day beating myself up for it.
Before I started meditating, I wasn’t even aware that there was a little voice inside of my head. Let alone that I was separate to it. But the longer I meditated, the more I began to observe these thoughts and feelings as mere electrochemical reactions and physiological sensations and the more I started to realise that I didn’t have to listen to them. I could create a commitment that was bigger than that little voice and I could identify myself with that commitment over any other lousy conversation inside of my head. And so over the years, I have grown stronger and more resilient and now, although the voice is certainly still there, I know it’s not the real me. The real me is someone who is on a mission to have people be inspired by their own true greatness and freed up to share it with the world.
So our challenge for you this week is to start to notice the little voice inside of your head and to identify it’s favourite self-limiting phrase. Then explore the question: ‘what am I really committed to in life’? Share your discoveries with the people around you, and if you are willing, we’d love you to reply and share them with us! To learn how to re-word the conversation inside your head, our Centred Edge Peak Performance Program starts TOMORROW – Tues 7th May, or next one 30th July, 2019.
