This week’s Thought Of The Week is adapted from an article by Mike Campbell, the man coach who is hosting a powerful live event for men on 4th March called ‘Beyond The Beers – – Conversations & Cool Shit For Men‘.

Conversation. It’s what makes us Human. How often are we guilty, though, of not having the important conversations about our physical and mental health and wellbeing? It’s easy to ignore these conversations because they’re uncomfortable. Yet, the cost ranges from no progress, even in the face of trying, through to serious life threatening issues. Our health is everything! It’s not worth waiting until it’s too late.

Ask yourself what conversations should I be having right now that will positively impact my health? Here are five conversation starters to dive into with yourself and/or others:

  1. What does health actually mean to me?
Not sick? Physical fitness? Good digestion? Inner contentment?
  2. What is my body trying to tell me right now that I’m not listening to?
Am I getting a cold…again? Is my neck sore? Am I sleep deprived? Am I anxious?
  3. What excuses am I making for not taking the necessary steps to improve my health and are they actually valid?
I’m too busy. It’s too expensive. I don’t know where to go. I don’t know how.
  4. Who can I call on to help hold me accountable and provide support on my journey?
My partner? My parent? My friend? A health professional?
  5. What does ‘success’ look like to me and how can I track my progress?
Less pain? Longer endurance? Improved digestion? Better sleep?

Take action! Remember, you’ll stuff things up from time to time, and that’s ok. Uncomfortable conversations lead to progress and growth, when we lean into them. There’s always a lesson for next time. This is how life goes; do, learn, do again, learn, do again but better… and so on. Just never give up and don’t be afraid to reach out for support.
