I distinctly remember when Kevin told me we were going to open up a meditation studio.

We dreamed of the idea during our travels, but I never imagined we would do it so soon.

What immediately came to mind was all the reasons why we weren’t ready. We’re not knowledgeable enough, or wise enough, or learned enough!

And then I recalled a telling piece of advice I had received years earlier: “If you know A, teach A. If you know B, teach B”.

Fast forward six months and we were opening our doors to a first of it’s kind, drop-in meditation studio.

What I’ve discovered in the last 4.5 years is that we’ll never know enough.

That’s the joy of this journey called life. We begin learning from the moment we come out of the womb and we don’t stop until we take our last breath.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t teach others what we are learning along the way.

In fact, we’ve always asserted that as co-founders of Centred Meditation, we’re not Gurus, we’re on one hell of a journey and we invite our guests to jump on board with us.

For thousands of years, people have said that the best way to understand a concept is to explain it to someone else.

In fact, there is a famous Latin principle that denotes this very sentiment: “Docendo discimus “, which translates to “the best way to learn is to teach”.

We’ve DEFINITELY found that to be the case ourselves!

What’s more, it’s now backed up by science! Research has found that students enlisted to tutor others work harder to understand the material, recall it more accurately and apply it more effectively. It’s been dubbed “the protégé effect,” where student teachers score higher on tests than pupils who are learning only for their own sake. Cool, huh?

We are extremely excited to announce that in March 2020, Centred Meditation is launching our first Meditation Teacher Training to the public.

It’s for people who solely want to dive deeper into their practice, and/or for those who want to share it with others.

This year, we had the privilege of facilitating a private course for one of our guests, Tom, and through the process we realised it’s our duty to share this training with others.

We asked Tom what he thought of the idea and whether he would recommend the Meditation Teacher Training to others. Here’s what he had to say…

I had been practising meditation regularly for 5 years and saw meditation teacher training as a logical next step – I thought the best way to learn is to learn to teach! I wanted to understand more about my meditation practice while also equipping me with the skills to share some of my learnings with others.

Centred Meditation’s Teacher Training was a great way to build the foundations behind my practice: Understand the broader context of meditation, why it works and how it is the bedrock of self-discovery and greater wellbeing. I enjoyed that the program was much broader than just learning how to teach. One of the program’s biggest benefits was learning what you need to know before you can teach! I loved that the program focused on spending time on what matters most versus memorising particular traditions or ceremonies – wonderful in their own right but not that interesting for me to learn personally.

Any program is only as good as its instructors – Kevin, Nikki & Walter are an incredible team who genuinely care and are deeply passionate about their mission! They provide a brilliantly modern teaching approach to a universal technique – unbounded by any single philosophy or organisation. They are also extremely generous with their time – inside and outside of hours! No question is too big or small to answer. Kevin & Nikki provide wonderful perspectives from their journey as teachers – they are brilliant at translating many centuries of content and literature into digestible form! Walter is a living encyclopedia of knowledge and an incredible role-model! I feel like I have only touched the surface of what this man has to bring to the world and have already learnt so much.

I would absolutely recommend Centred Meditation’s Teacher Training program to others. Why? Because the world needs more people meditating – and that needs more teachers! Kevin, Nikki and Walter are the best teachers you could hope your in the next part of your journey!
