It’s no secret that Year 12 can be a huge source of anxiety and stress for both students and their immediate families, but with the added disruption this year of COVID-19, research shows that study stress has significantly escalated.
Having experienced first hand a reduction in stress and anxiety as well as an improvement in sleep, focus and productivity, we have decided to create a special “Centred Studies” pass which offers all final year students (and their immediately families) unlimited complimentary access to all our on-demand, live-streamed and in studio meditation sessions and workshops until the end of their final exams.
Did you know that I, Nikki, had my first panic attack during an English exam in Year 12? For the life of me, I could not think of what to write. I broke out into a sweat. My heart started racing, my hands started shaking, a wave of nausea came over me and I felt like I was about to faint. It was a horrible feeling which I don’t wish upon anyone!
I didn’t know it was anxiety then, nor during my uni degree – but it certainly knew me and followed me around for years. Until I found Effortless Meditation that is. And when you discover something that changes your life for the better so dramatically, all you want to do is share it with others.
So knowing intimately what we now do about the benefits of Effortless Meditation and other mindfulness tools, we decided we wanted to share these practices with Year 12 students to allow them the best possible chance in their upcoming exams. Being able to de-excite the physiology quickly allows us a powerful moment of calm that helps bring everything into perspective. And with a regular practice, we can minimise the anxious and overwhelming feelings that arise and slow the constant chatter in our minds that tends to be exacerbated at night just as we are trying to fall asleep.
Our goal has always been to make the technique which had made such a difference in our own lives, accessible to others like us. Until now, our target audience has always been the most highly stressed (arguably) of our society – urban professionals – but we’ve always known that once we had established ourselves and transitioned from start-up to small business, we wanted to give back.
